CBBC Live in Leeds
This July’s CBBC event and child friendly Leeds activities put children and young people at the heart of the fun in Leeds city centre, with 38,500 people attending over three days! The free event, a partnership between BBC North and Leeds City Council for 6 – 12 year olds and their families, saw broadcasts of CBBC shows from Millennium Square in front of a huge live audience, including the finale of the Blue Peter – You Decide! competition, where Lindsey Russell was chosen as the newest Blue Peter presenter by fans.
There were hands-on workshops with kids presenting their own BBC shows, being creative, and meeting creepy crawlies, as well as lots of chances to play and find out about the amazing activities Leeds has to offer.
You can find out what kids from Leeds thought in video reports and blog posts from our child friendly Leeds reporters, in Newsround items from young reporters on the CBBC workshops and events, or hear from Opera North Children’s Chorus members who performed on the main stage, and more.
Around Leeds city centre, we saw lots of child friendly Leeds events including incredible robot-making at Trinity Leeds, awesome storytelling and film-making at Leeds Central Library, football on Briggate, fairground rides, and most of all, kids having fun!
If you had a good time at the events, and you’ve been inspired to do something to make Leeds a great place for children to live, learn and play in, why not get in touch on childfriendlyleeds@leeds.gov.uk? We’re looking for more ambassadors to help put ideas in to action and spread the word, and we’d love to hear from more businesses and organisations too.
And, if you’re looking for more things to do this summer, don’t forget there are loads of activities for children and young people happening right here in Leeds – find out about all of them at http://www.breezeleeds.org/
