The Deer Shed Festival is the North’s premier family-friendly music, arts and science festival. Set in beautiful, rolling Yorkshire parkland, it offers a unique blend of great music and excellent family activities. Priding itself on offering something for everyone (from your new-born to your granny), Deer Shed Festival has become a great way for families to start their summer holidays.
Deer Shed Festival aims to create a space where children, tweens, and teens can be introduced to festivals, make new friends, have an amazing time while parents, aunts and uncles, and grandparents can enjoy themselves as adults.

With so many awesome activities on offer over the Deer Shed Festival weekend, kids will never utter the dreaded “I’m bored” or look at their parents with an expression of “entertain me” in their eyes. There are numerous exciting hands-on activities in the Science Tent (including the ever popular Forensics Workshop where you can solve a crime using tried and tested forensic techniques), over 80 arts and crafts workshops (including clay modelling with Aardman Animation, dance workshops with Mathew Bourne’s New Adventures, and drama workshops with West Yorkshire Playhouse), and loads to do in the Sports Field including skateboarding and BMX riding on our brand new mini half pipe.

Every year, Deer Shed Festival has a theme and this year it’s incorporating all the glitz and glamour of being “At the Movies”. As well as filming our own short film over the festival weekend, we are going to be running a number of movie-themed workshops including acting for screen, costume and set design, story boarding, and stage combat.

The Deer Shed Festival’s music and arts line-up reflects the contemporary family-focused feel of the festival. This year’s headliners include the legendary Richard Hawley, the imitable Everything Everything, and the excellent Beth Orton. They will be joined by superb special guests Anna Calvi, Steve Mason, Rae Morris, Field Music, C Duncan, Eagulls, LoneLady, Ed Harcourt and many, many more.

This is the seventh Deer Shed Festival. The team behind it have been in place from the start and families are at the heart of the preparations, activities and services on site. In the last seven years, we have steadily grown our attendance to 10,000 with 46% aged 15 and under. Those seven years have seen a host of amazing bands play including John Grant, Johnny Marr, Billy Bragg, Edwyn Collins, Wolf Alice, I Am Kloot, Saint Etienne, The Wedding Present, House of Love and Field Music.

What They Said About Deer Shed Festival:
“The best yet in Deer Shed’s burgeoning reputation in what is becoming the north’s answer to the Latitude Festival” Hartlepool Mail from 2015
“Set in beautiful rolling countryside outside the North Yorkshire market town of Thirsk, Deer Shed has quickly established itself as the jewel in the north of England’s summer festival crown. It is warm, welcoming and really rather wonderful.” God Is In The TV from 2015
“Because there’s something about the atmosphere, the site and the families, which remains unmatched anywhere in festival-dom. And I’m willing to wager that for 99% of the audience at Deer Shed, that’s what keeps them coming back year after year. Here’s to Deer Shed’s 6th birthday.” There Goes The Fear (from 2014)
“Deer Shed is jam packed with quality. The organisers have clearly given much thought to what all members of the family will want within a festival and have gone a considerable way to delivering that.” EFESTIVALS
