Making your street a safe place for children, young people and all your neighbours to play, hang out and have fun.

Did you know that you can apply to close your street to traffic for a set amount time to turn your neighbourhood into a ‘play street’?
Want to know a bit more about how it works?
01
Apply
First, you must apply your interest. You can apply for a one-off play street or a regular one!
The team will figure out if your road is suitable, or if a nearby road would be better.
You will be given more information and help around what to do next.
02
Prep
There are a number of tasks to do to get ready:
Make sure you have some helpers for the day.
Collect the ‘road closed’ stickers.
Invite people from your community to the play street!
Display something called a TTRO to let people know the road will be closed.
03
Set-up
Some people chose to move their cars to a nearby road to create more space.
Put up the ‘road closed’ signs to shut off the road.
Make sure all the helpers know what to do.
Clear the street of any rubbish and bring out any play equipment you feel comfortable sharing.
04
Play!
Let the children play, the young people have fun and the adults chat and socialise!
Cars for deliveries or cars of people who live on the street can still gain access by driving at walking pace with stewards clearing the path.
A toolkit all around ‘Play Streets’ and how to host one is coming soon.
