The Leeds day of play!

The Lord Mayor of Leeds’s ‘Just One Day’ fundraising day to support Leeds Community Foundation took place across Leeds this week!
The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Abigail Katung Marshall, selected the Leeds Community Foundation as her chosen charity. This organisation supports many other smaller charities which fight against food poverty, health inequalities and support positive mental health. All causes close to the Lord Mayor’s heart.
The ‘Just One Day’ fundraising initiative takes place every year, with each Lord Mayor raising money for each of their chosen charities, but this year Child Friendly Leeds are honoured to have worked alongside the Lord Mayor to make the day all about play! Businesses, community groups, public sector organisations and schools alike were welcomed to spend a day playing and raising money for the chosen charity.
Why play?
Play is crucial to everyone’s mental health and well-being: both children and adults. This is why Just One Day is having a ‘playful makeover’ this year, and we are asking everyone in Leeds to fund raise through play.
Perks for schools
Schools who signed up to the day received free resources from Child Friendly Leeds to help them have a playful day, including: an assembly; a school council framework; playful lessons for Maths, English and Reading; a Local Geography unit. Two lucky schools who signed up also received a visit from the Lord Mayor to thank them for taking part!
