Understanding Children’s Safeguarding Partnerships

A Children’s Safeguarding Partnership is a group of people who work together to make sure children are safe and protected from harm. These people work in different organisations like schools, hospitals, the police, and social services. They all have one main goal: to keep children and young people safe from harm.
Why do we need safeguarding partnerships?
Think about a time when you needed help—maybe you were scared of someone or something, being hurt or not feeling safe. You’d want someone to step in and help you, to notice that there was something not right. That’s what these partnerships do. They create rules and plans and work together to help children who are being harmed and prevent bad things from happening in the first place.
Who are the members of the partnership?
The partnership includes a variety of professionals:
- Teachers: They see children every day and can notice if something is wrong.
- Doctors and Nurses: They can help if a child is hurt or sick.
- Police Officers: They can protect children from dangerous situations.
- Social Workers: They support families and children who need extra help.
How do they work together?
These people meet regularly to talk about how they can improve safety for children. They share information and ideas, and create plans to help children who might be in danger. They also look at what has happened in the past to learn how they can do better in the future.
What can you do?
You can play a role in keeping yourself and others safe:
- Talk to a trusted adult: If you ever feel unsafe or if you know someone who might be in trouble, tell a teacher, parent, or another adult you trust.
- Be kind: Treat others with kindness and respect. This helps create a safe environment for everyone.
- Learn more: Understanding more about safety and how to protect yourself and others is always a good idea.
Children’s Safeguarding Partnerships are important teams that work to keep children safe. In Leeds this group of professionals are called Leeds Safeguarding Children Partnership or LSCP. By working together these professionals help make sure children stay safe.
Remember, if you ever need help, there are always people ready to support you. Always talk to an adult you trust like a teacher.
