This week, the child friendly Leeds awards will be held at the City Varieties, celebrating the great things that people, places and organisations are doing in Leeds to make it the best place to grow up.

We asked you to make your choices at the end of last year, and the winners will be announced at a special awards event on 30 January, run by a dedicated and creative group of young people. As a member of the judging panel, I’ve been privileged to hear about the incredible things the children, adults and organisations you nominated have been doing. Whether through education, activities, foster care, or providing dedicated support to those who need it most, you told us about people all over the city making a difference to children’s lives, including children and young people putting their voices, time and effort in to make this city a great place to live.

At a time when there are serious challenges to face, it is even more important that we take the time to thank and recognise the efforts of all those in Leeds who are working to make it somewhere that children and young people are safe, supported and happy, and can look forward to a bright future.

Thank you again and congratulations to everyone who was nominated, and to all those who took the time to make a nomination. You can read more about all of the shortlisted candidates here.

Cllr Judith Blake
