What have fosterers been up to over the last month
As part of our ambition to make Leeds a child friendly city we work with a range of businesses and organisations to provide support to our foster carers. The organisations often provide our foster carers with free or discounted tickets to events, so they can get out and about with the young people they look after and get involved in the best things happening around the city.
As it is fostering fortnight, we decided to share some of the stories of foster carers working with young people and some of the great things they’ve been up to….
First Direct arena is one of our fostering partners, and they gave us free tickets for Disney On Ice on the 15 May 2015, 30 of our foster carers attended across three shows, having an amazing day out.
AB, a foster carer in attendance, said:
“We had a fantastic night the seats were great and the kids loved every minute of the show! It’s was a fantastic experience and a great night out like this was something we all needed!”
KC, a foster carer in attendance, said:
“Thank you so much for the tickets, we had an amazing time, the show was truly fantastic and absolutely made the kids year. They said was best show of their life!”
When Leeds Rhinos played Huddersfield Giants on 16 May we were given tickets for the much reduced price of £5, so whole families could afford to go watch the game.
PS, a foster carer in attendance, said:
“We had a lovely afternoon at the match, especially as Leeds Rhinos beat Huddersfield 48- 16, which was brilliant. It was great to get the cheap tickets, it they let us see that our kinship foster child will sit and enjoy a rugby match, even though he’s only 4yrs old. We now know it’s something we can do regularly as a family!”
AS, a foster carer in attendance, said:
“The young person I look after had a fantastic time at the Leeds Rhinos game! The tickets were much appreciated.”
The Tetley ran a Creative Art workshop for Under 5’s and their carers on 24 April for our foster carers, 30 carers and children attended, getting involved in sensory art activities.
ST, a foster carer in attendance, said:
“We had a lovely time this morning the venue was fab, lots of space as well. The activities were very well thought out and the young people loved being able to move from area to area, doing different activities. There was such a variety of activities that the young person I look after enjoyed himself, even though he doesn’t like paint – overall 10 out of 10!”
GH, a foster carer in attendance, said:
“We had a great time didn’t realise we had a budding artist in our care. The venue was brilliant it was nice to talk to other carers and I am looking forward to the next event.”
A big thanks to all of our foster carers for taking the time to share their experiences, and our partner organisations for making those experiences possible!
We currently have around 600 foster carers and are looking for more people – like you – to help improve the lives of our cities young people.
