I moved to Leeds and launched ‘Sara Horner School of Dance’

Hear from one of our latest ambassadors, Sara Horner. This is my FIRST blog ever after designing my new website. So exciting! I thought I would use the first one to tell you more about Sara Horner School of Dance and what we have been up to over the last 12 months. I moved to Leeds from London almost 2 years ago now to be closer to my family and to settle down with my new husband. Leeds is a city brimming over with dance and it felt like the perfect location for my dance school, so in October 2015 I held some free taster sessions at Roundhay and Oakwood Festival in Leeds –Sara Horner School of Dance was born.
Soon after, both of our Beginners Adult Ballet classes began at the Dance Studio Leeds and Oakwood Church where I met a fabulous group of adult dancers who still join me in class every week to this day! My 2 adult classes became 3 when I introduced Beginners Adult Tap at Moor Allerton Sports and Social Centre in April last year – I love my Thursday evenings with these ladies!
At first, I only wanted to hold some daytime classes for adults, but the opportunity of taking taster sessions in October allowed me to ponder the idea of holding a children’s class too – soon becoming our bbodancePre Primary tap and ballet lesson. In July, these little dancers had so much fun putting on colourful tutus for their first performance in ‘Midsummer Madness’ helping raise £1000 for Oakwood Church funds, and now we are working towards out first ballet exam this year.
It wasn’t just my younger dancers who took to the stage in 2016. My adult ballet dancers performed my piece ‘Classical Collection’ for ‘DSL A Celebration of Dance 2’ at The Carriageworks Theatre in October. I look forward to our next performance – watch this space!
