World Book Day 2017 – Highlights from Leeds

WBD5.pngThis year, Leeds School Library Service worked with a phenomenal 24 schools across the city over a week of World Book Day events. 8 different authors and illustrators were invited in to schools, meeting a total of 3719 children.
All of our famous authors and illustrators are from Yorkshire: Andy Seed, Jason Beresford, Phil Earle, Stephen Waterhouse, Chris Mould, Lynne Chapman, Kate Pankhurst and Emma Barnes.

As part of the week, we were honoured to attend the opening ceremony of Fountain Primary’s new library. The children in KS2 were thrilled by a visit from Chris Mould with his bespoke hairdressing silliness with the golden scissors. KS1 thoroughly enjoyed their time with Lynne Chapman and the Kangaroo’s Can Can! We were pleased to agree with #FountainPrimary that we’d “rather have IT on a trolley and a fully stocked library” and think that the new library is looking stunning!

Words of Thanks

At the end of the week, we received a lovely message from St Margaret’s school in Horsforth as well as from the authors: “Just to let you know we have had a really inspiring book week. The authors were both absolutely fantastic and the children have been totally inspired by them. It’s been brilliant…Thanks again for the great job you and your colleagues do at SLS in giving us such fabulous opportunities.”

WBD1(We have actually paid for the visits by having Bun Sales each week so any school could do it really).Thank you so much Pauline, Kirsty, Michelle and all the SLS team for organising the Leeds school events…..they were brilliant! All four schools which I visited were friendly, enthusiastic and very helpful. Quite a few Teachers and Librarians said the SLS team continue to offer an amazing level of service to schools. Keep up the great work guys!
