Wish 10 – Training offer to schools and settings

In Leeds, we want all teachers and school staff to feel confident in supporting children and young people with different learning needs.
Staff can use Leeds for Learning, an online platform full of useful information, training, and resources.
For support with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), there’s the SEND Gateway, where staff can:

- Learn about the different SEND support teams and request support
- Book training sessions
- Find resources to help students with a range of needs—from dyslexia to emotional wellbeing
Last year, over 2,600 staff took part in 91 training events to improve how they support students.
The Toolkit
There’s also the Graduated Approach Toolkit, which helps teachers plan and review support for students with SEND. It includes step-by-step guidance, tools like Quick Guides (one-page summaries of different needs) and Provision Grids (strategies and ideas to help with learning and assessment). This toolkit is built on research and shaped by feedback from teachers, families, and professionals.
Leeds is launching new Inclusive Mainstream Practice Guidance in November on the Leeds Local Offer website. The tool also prompts discussion about when the child does well and when things are harder. After phase one, the tool was revised to give more space for each area, separate some items for clarity, and use more neuro-affirming language.
Profiling conversations were completed for a total of 43 children across primary schools in two phases. Training was taken up by many schools across the three clusters involved.
