Transitioning Out of Care: An Information Pack Created by Care-Experienced Young People, for Care-Experienced Young People

This guide was created by the members of V.O.I.C.E (Voices of Individuals with Care Experience, prev. the Care Leavers Council) below is a description from one of it’s creators:

“This guide was created by young adults at the Voices of Individuals with Care Experience group. Though each individual who took part has a different experience they all know how scary and confusing leaving care can be. Suddenly, you’ve gone from having so many meetings to being basically on your own. The group wanted to create something that eases that transition. The guide contains accessible guidance covering everything from managing money and paying bills to finding a job, accessing education, and cooking on a budget; and many other topics that can hopefully help you. Remember you’re not alone, you’ve got this and good luck!”

The document was created by working in partnership with a range of local organisations and services, Leeds City Council staff then developed the content. Contributions came from organisations including Green Doctor, Leeds Credit Union, Jobshop, Leeds City College, the University of Leeds, Leeds Building Services and teams across Leeds City Council.

This project is a fantastic example of young people influencing services and making Leeds a truly Child Friendly city, ensuring the voices of care-experienced young people continue to shape support for future generations.
