Bushcraft is back at Skelton Grange Environment Centre!

Skelton Grange Environment Centre is to host a number of exciting ways for kids to get out and about during the school holidays in 2016. Each new session is aimed at getting children off the sofa and into the fresh air – to explore nature, to play games, to have fun – giving a whole host of health benefits along the way.

The centre aims to promote an understanding of environmental issues to children and young people of all backgrounds and abilities, demonstrating environmental good practice. It also aims to be a place where children can have a lot of fun in the outdoors, learning new skills and leaving them keen for more adventure. Since opening in 1992, well over 200,000 people have visited the centre and it now has a national reputation for excellence and innovation in the field.

This year Skelton Grange hopes to take their already very popular Bushcraft events forward with two new types of events:

Bushcraft Basecamp
For all children aged 8-12. With a focus on having fun and learning basic skills such as shelter building, fire lighting and knife work, plus games.

Bushcraft Explorers
For children aged 10-13 that have attended 2 or more Basecamp sessions who would like to learn skills in greater depth.

Ralph Walker, Skelton Grange Administrator: “We are really excited about our events schedule for 2016. There’s so much for everyone to get involved in including loads of different Bushcraft sessions for kids, craft courses for adults, INSET days for teachers and of course many volunteering opportunities. We’ve also been shortlisted by Child Friendly Leeds as the best place in Leeds for children and young people, which is a real testament to all the great work that our volunteers and staff have put in!”

As well as the new two-tiered system for Bushcraft events, there’ll be the return of the Into the Wilderness camping event, Skelton Kid’s Spy Academy and also the very popular Skelton Rangers playscheme (with a special early bird discount)!
