Let’s get Sugar Smart

Change4Life’s Sugar Smart Campaign highlights the high levels of sugar found in children’s everyday foods and drinks and encourages parents to get “Sugar Smart” and take control of their children’s sugar intake.

On average, children in England are consuming three times more sugar than the maximum recommended daily amount. They might seem fine on the outside but too much sugar can lead to the build-up of harmful fat on the inside that we can’t see.

The new downloadable Sugar Smart app for smartphones, will help parents see how much sugar there is in everyday food and drink. The free app works by scanning the barcode of products and revealing the amount of total sugar it contains in cubes and grams.

You can also search the Change4Life website for lots of free support, tips, ideas and recipes. Families can also share their sugar swaps with the new totalizer on the Leeds Let’s Change website.
