Who are you really talking to?
A new campaign has been launched this week by the Leeds Safeguarding Children Board, to warn children and young people on the dangers of online grooming.
Many people use Facebook, Twitter or other social media sites to keep in touch with friends and family online. Young people may feel pressure to have lots of “friends” online, however it’s easy for someone to pretend to be someone else on the internet and they could end up having conversations on social media, with people who aren’t who they say they are.
The “Who are you really talking to” campaign advises 13-18 year olds on what online grooming is, how to recognise it and provides information about how to stay safe online. It also warns against up-loading personal information online, which could identify where youngsters live and how to contact them.
