Yorkshire Young Dancers flashmob at Trinity Leeds
On Saturday the 19th of July students from the Centre for Advanced Training, Yorkshire Young Dancers (YYD) based at Northern School of Contemporary Dance jumped into action at Trinity Leeds shopping centre as part of Breeze Arts Festival. The flash mob was choreographed by Sean Selby and helped to promote both the arts Festival and private fostering in Leeds, which is close to the heart of some members of Yorkshire Young Dancers.
The flash mob is a favourite with the dancers as they enjoy the sudden unexpected nature of performing in a public space, as one dancer commented: “The thrill of knowing that you are about to do something unexpected is so much fun, it boosts your confidence and is completely different to dancing on-stage”.
They have fun creating the work as it fuses contemporary dance, commercial, street and ballet together to create an amazing spectacle.
The dancer added: “It is brilliant being able to perform so many dance styles in one go, it is high energy entertainment!”
The flash mob brings dance to a whole new audience of shoppers who may not come to a theatre to see dance and the comments we received on the day and afterwards on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook were absolutely fantastic.
The only downside of the day was that we were hoping to perform on Briggate in front of the stage but unfortunately the wet weather meant it was too slippery. But that is the life of a flash mob it pops up when you least expect it and it has to accommodate the lovely British weather.
